Academic I-BEST: Pathways for Transfer Degree Students

Want to take core classes for your degree, but don't have English 101 placement yet? I-BEST can help!

Academic I-BEST offers different Core Distribution Requirements (elective classes) each quarter, paired with an Academic English "Bucket" class. Each class is worth 5 credits, and the classes MUST be taken together, for 10 credits total. These classes are team-taught by two instructors, and I-BEST waives the English 101 placement requirement. So, you can start taking Distribution/Elective Classes earlier, and potentially earn credit for up-to English 101 at the same time!

  • Bridge 90, Bridge 93, or English 99 (previously Bridge 115)

    • Students begin the quarter in pre-college level English, but have potential to earn credit for up-to English 101 in the same quarter.
    • Individual results vary, based on academic improvement and instructors' evaluation of work. After completion, the highest credit earned is reflected on transcripts, and students receive an updated placement for the following quarter.
