Medical Information Technology Programs

Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Certificate

The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Certificate is for those who seek billing and coding careers in health care and insurance settings, as well as those currently employed in health care who seek additional training. Medical billing and coding specialists review and interpret the health record and maintain close communication with health care providers, supporting efficient health care documentation and revenue cycles. After health care services are provided, medical coders review the health record and assign medical codes for diagnoses, services, tests, and procedures. Following the documentation and coding processes, the medical biller prepares and processes the medical billing and coding data, including charge entry, insurance claims processing, payment posting, patient billing, and insurance and patient follow-up. Medical billing and coding specialists in this high demand job field excel in analytical thinking, detail management, problem solving, and interpersonal communication.

Program graduates are eligible to take CPC® and CCS-P® national coding certification exams with the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).”

Medical Office Certificate

The Medical Office Certificate is designed to prepare the graduate for positions as entry level medical office support professionals. The program includes courses in general office skills, grammar, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, medical records, and medical document processing and computer applications. Graduates may find employment in doctors’ offices, medical clinics, hospitals, and other health facilities.”

Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate

The Medical Information Technology (MIT) Certificate is an introductory program designed for those who seek entry-level employment in the medical office field, as well as those currently employed in the medical field, who seek additional training. Medical Information Technology courses provide introductory study of medical careers, law/ethics, terminology, documentation, billing/coding, health care, and computer applications.”

Medical Administrative Assistant ATA

The Associate of Technical Arts Degree in Medical Information Technology-Medical Administrative Assistant is a program for students who have completed the Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate. Comprehensive coursework in medical/health and business administration prepares the graduate for employment as an administrative manager/supervisor in medical clinics, hospitals, ambulatory health care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, state or federal health agencies, law or insurance firms, pharmaceutical companies, and medical product vendors.”
