Lynnwood City Council approves emergency overnight sheltering11/16/2011
Press release via City of LynnwoodOn October 17, 2011, the Lynnwood City Council unanimously approved the use of City Hall’s Council Chambers for overnight sheltering of homeless individuals when the temperature is anticipated to reach 33°F or below for four or more hours overnight. The shelter will be run by volunteers of the South Snohomish County Emergency Shelter Network, which is a cadre of volunteers from several area churches. Starting November 15, 2011, the Lynnwood Fire Department will activate the Emergency Shelter no later than 10 a.m. when overnight sheltering is required based upon weather forecasts. A press release will be sent to the media and other concerned parties when the activation has been made. The shelter is open to men, women and families requiring overnight sheltering. Evening and morning meals will be provided. When activated, those requiring overnight sheltering will gather at Lynnwood’s City Hall at 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 5 p.m. on Sunday evenings.
