International Mentors (IM) are Edmonds College Students that help support all international students living in our Homestay Program. IMs play an important role in extending the college’s mission and values to our international Homestay students in order to keep them connected to campus and help foster their success.
Every quarter International Mentors draft biweekly emails to share campus announcements and events that may interest our Homestay students. In addition, IMs have weekly drop in times in the Community Room at Rainier Place where students are welcomed to meet and talk about their homestay experience. Visit the Housing Office at Rainier Place for details or stop us if you see us around campus. We are here to help!
What do mentors do?
- Answer questions about the international student experience overall;
- Help international students struggling with culture shock;
- Provide references to campus and community resources; and
- Generally be a friendly face for students adjusting to new surroundings.
IMs are not meant to replace professional staff on campus; however, IMs can help connect students to their advisors and other resources on campus.
