Entrepreneurship Training for Low-Income Individuals
Edmonds Community College has partnered with the Bainbridge Graduate Institute to bring StartZone Northwest to the Edmonds CC campus.
StartZone Northwest provides accessible and affordable "first step" entrepreneurship training, one-on-one consulting, and other support to help people start and grow profitable small businesses. These services are available to underserved students and community members who face barriers to training and capital.
The services are free to low-income individuals. The classes are noncredit. If a series is not completed, missed classes may be taken in later months.
Why StartZone Northwest?
The benefit to StartZone Northwest is that all of the programs:
Are Reality Based – We help our members determine early whether or not they are ready to move forward and whether their startup or expansion goals are realistic and feasible. Our assessment tools help members make an early "go-no-go" decision, before they've invested a lot of time, energy and money on a business concept that won't fly.
Are Person-Centered – StartZone is not a one-size-fits-all program. Not all of our members need a business plan or are looking for financing for their business. Our members reflect the wide diversity of the community we serve and bring with them challenges that are often culturally-specific. We meet our members where we find them, help them articulate their business goals, and develop a customized work plan designed to help them overcome their specific challenges and move them toward success.
Promote Pathways to Growth and Profits – Businesses in the informal economy (that is, businesses that are "cash only, under the table") can work on a small scale but are not bankable and have limited growth and profit potential. We are committed to helping our members build businesses that are formal, bankable, and profitable with a solid foundation that can support growth.
