Students in Service
The purpose of the Students in Service program is to meet critical community needs by engaging you in service, and fostering an ethic of civic responsibility. Through this program, you are introduced to local, regional, and national Service-Learning opportunities, resulting in a regional network of student leaders committed to serving and strengthening their local communities. You serve in partnership with schools and community-based organizations in the areas of education, human needs/services, the environment, public safety, and Homeland Security.
Students in Service offers you the opportunity to choose one of three terms of service. Upon successful completion of a term of service, students are eligible for an Education Award (scholarship), which can be applied towards outstanding student loans or the Cost of Attendance at a college or university. The Education Award amount varies, depending on the term of service:
- 300 Hour Term of Service = $ 1,000.00 Education Award (scholarship)
- 450 Hour Term of Service = $ 1,250.00 Education Award (scholarship)
- 900 Hour Term of Service = $ 2,362.50 Education Award (scholarship)
If you are interested in making a difference in your community and earning an educational scholarship to help offset the cost of college tuition, then complete the online Pre-Service Orientatation in order to begin the steps to creating your service term. The next step is to meet with the Americorps Student Engagement Specialist to schedule an orientation in MLT 120 or calling (425) 640-1866.
