Guidelines for Faculty

The key to using streaming audio effectively is to ensure you use it in a way that adds definite value to learning. Don’t use audio just to give students a break from reading or for short commentaries where a text version would be just as effective. For example, adding streaming audio instructions on how to use menu items in an outline tutorial doesn’t add much pedagogical value. Instead use streaming audio intentionally to:

• Convey a specific mood or tone
• Stories and interviews
• Language skills and communication arts

Podcasting IS:

• Short Audio Files
• News clips & updates
• Frequently Updated

Podcasting is NOT:

• Full Lectures
