Work for a Greener World
Restoration Horticulture degree

This unique two-year degree will train students to help restore damaged land, habitat, and ecosystems in a range of rural, suburban, and urban environments. Learn to replant natural areas with native plants and how to create green spaces in urban settings using green roofs and bioswales. Horticulture classes include: Pacific Northwest Land and Water Issues, Urban Forestry, and Native Plants in the Landscape. Our Courses
We are integrating sustainable concepts and practices into many existing courses, but the courses below have sustainability as a core focus.
Introduction to Sustainability — Energy 105
Explore and define sustainability. Understand carbon footprints and ghg inventories. Review major energy systems impacting sustainability, including buildings and transportation. Emphasis on tools to measure sustainability.
Sustainable Development — Geography 150
Learn about sustainability issues around the world within a geographic framework. Examine policies that affect sustainability of resources, the environment, and society.
Sociology of the Environment — Sociology 130
Learn about the origins of, and solutions to, environmental problems. Topics include the relationship between humanity and nature from different cultural perspectives (e.g. Native American), animal rights, consumer behavior, and population trends.
