Running Start
Some Possible Concerns
Maturity level/ Socialization
Some students who are academically ready for Running Start may find the independence and the speed of college classes overwhelming. These students may benefit from remaining in high school classes and the social network/experiences high schools provide.
Transportation
Transportation is the responsibility of students. The EdPass offers free local bus service.
Student expenses
Books, supplies, fees, and other expenses are the responsibility of students.
Conflicts with high school activities
The scheduling of college classes may conflict with high school classes or extra-curricular activities.
Schedule
The college and the high school have different schedules. Students will be expected to attend classes even though college classes may conflict with high school vacations and/or activities. Students are not guaranteed enrollment in any class, even if the class is required for high school graduation.
Graduation requirements
The high school is the final authority on what is required for graduation. Students must consult with their high school counselor about graduation requirements.
Student services
Student services offered at the high school are different than those offered at the college. Consult with a high school counselor and refer to the college's catalog in the "Student Services" section for comparison.
