Some Strengths
Class choice
Students have an increased opportunity to take courses that may not be offered at their local high school, including advanced level courses.
Early start
Students have an opportunity to experience post-secondary education while in high school. This experience can be helpful in making the transition from high school to college, and in making future educational plans.
Students of all ages
Running Starters find that taking courses with different aged students with varying perspectives and opinions to be the most rewarding part of their college experience.
Educational setting
Students who find that high school is not meeting all their needs may benefit from a different educational setting.
Tuition-free courses
Students can earn up to six quarters of tuition-free college credit if they access the Running Start Program in the fall quarter of their junior year.
Vocational/technical programs
Vocational/technical programs not available at the high school may be available at the community college.
Participation in high school activities
Students may continue to participate in high school activities, including athletics, while enrolled in community college courses.
