RISE is a National Science Foundation-funded project, awarded to Edmonds Community College for five years to increase the number of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math-STEM students graduating and transferring, increase the diversity among STEM majors, graduates, and transfers, and increase the successful progression of STEM majors through gateway STEM courses.

 

The RISE student support program is a community of STEM students. RISE students are provided a suite of student support services, including:

  • a faculty advisor and mentor,
  • a STEM study room with peer and/or faculty tutors,
  • an opportunity to be a paid peer tutor,
  • social events, panels, and speakers on STEM topics,
  • STEMinars – cohort classes for RISE students,
  • academic support and workshops,
  • undergraduate research opportunities and/or service-learning opportunities in STEM, and
  • assistance in the university transfer process or job-search process.

Who is Eligible for RISE?

You are eligible if you are earning a two-year Associate degree and/or intending to transfer to a four-year institution in one of the following STEM related fields of study:  biology, chemistry, computer science, computer information systems, computer electronics and networks, engineering, environmental science, geology, materials science technology, mathematics,or physics.  Part-time students and running start students are eligible to join!

RISE students must also:

  • be a United States citizens or permanent resident,
  • demonstrate previous academic achievement with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, and
  • participate in RISE activities during the award term.
