Cultural Diversity Requirement

Edmonds Community College recognizes that graduates live and work in a multicultural society. The college requires that all students entering degree and certificate programs of 45 credits or more meet the cultural diversity (CD) requirement.

Students in Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees must take one or more courses with a CD designation as indicated in the college’s quarterly class schedule for five (5) credits. Other programs specify the cultural diversity requirement on their program requirement sheets. Students should check with their adviser for more information on their specific degree or certificate programs.

Courses that satisfy the cultural diversity requirement address at least two of the three areas below:

• Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of culture and its influence on individuals and cultural groups in our society.

• Self-awareness of attitudes and values regarding life in a multicultural society.

• Skills to recognize and analyze and evaluate multicultural perspectives and issues.
