The Phlebotomist Technician (pronunciation: fli-'bä-tä-mE ) is the person responsible for drawing blood as instructed by a physician or other health care professional. Most patients have their blood drawn at medical examinations or during hospital stays. The phlebotomist performs venipuncture on patients, transports blood specimens, maintains and cleans venipuncture trays, and may perform simple urinalysis tests, not to include microscopic examinations.
Upon completing AHE 141 and AHE 143, students within this program will be eligible for ASCP certification and licensing as a MA-Phlebotomist through Washington State. The knowledge, skills, and abilities in this program were designed based on the standards defined by NAACLS and ASCP.

Phlebotomy courses are generally offered in fall, winter and spring quarters. In addition AHE 143 (Externship) may be offered in summer.
