Course Descriptions
PHIL& 101   Introduction to Philosophy (5 Credits)
A critical study of the work of a few major philosophers, and the fundamental issues of philosophy; may include human nature, ethical theory, justice and political philosophy, the nature and extent of knowledge, and the nature of self and being (was PHIL 100).
PHIL& 106   Introduction to Logic (5 Credits)
An introduction to the identification, construction, and analysis of argumentation. Attention to deductive and inductive styles focusing on elements of form, truth, validity, soundness, cogency and application to critical thinking, listening, and writing (was PHIL 120).
PHIL 110   Contemporary Moral Issues (5 Credits)
A philosophical consideration of contemporary moral issues such as abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, discrimination, war, and world hunger.
Prerequisite: ENGL 100 or placement in ENGL& 101 (was ENGL 105) or above.
PHIL 155   Special Topics (5 Credits)
Topics and seminars of current interest in philosophy.
PHIL 198   Individual Project in Philosophy (1-5 Credits)
Study of student-selected project or approved experiences in the field of philosophy. S/U grade option.
Prerequisite: Instructor's permission.
PHIL 199   Special Projects (5 Credits)

PHIL 255   Special Topics (5 Credits)
Topics and seminars of current interest in philosophy.
PHIL 267   Comparison of Religions (5 Credits)
Historical and philosophical study of the major religious traditions of the world. Presentations, readings, discussion and self-reflection. Students compare and contrast religious traditions as avenues in the perennial search for meaning.
Prerequisite: Placement in ENGL 100 or higher.
PHIL 298   Individual Project in Philosophy (1-5 Credits)
Study of student-selected project or approved experiences in the field of philosophy. S/U grade option.
