
Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician program, which consists of both classroom and clinical education, prepares you to work in a hospital environment under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Students are trained to perform clinical skills such as blood collection, EKGs, catheterization, recording vital signs and patient treatments, and other tasks related to patient care. Patient Care Technician graduates can expect to find employment opportunities in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and placement agencies. To obtain your Patient Care Technician certificate, you must complete these 4 modules:

Basic Patient Care Skills (or current CNA)

Phlebotomy

Advanced Nursing Skills
Career Outlook
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of patient care technicians is projected to grow 19% between 2008 and 2018, faster than the average for all occupations. The job outlook for these positions is growing due to the long-term care needs of the increasing elderly population. Pay varies by experiences, employer and locality. Patient Care Tech Curriculum
The Patient Care Technician program, after completing your prerequisites, has a total of 27.5 credits and is usually completed in two (2) quarters; both quarters consist of a combination of education course work and practicums.
