College-Wide Abilities Task Force
Please send feedback about the proposed CWAs’ revision to Kathy Murphy; Beth O’Donnell, or Eva Smith.
During the Spring 2009 Quarter, the College-Wide Abilities Task Force, a cross-campus team of faculty and administrators, worked on revising the College-Wide Abilities (CWAs) with an eye toward retaining the existing abilities but re-categorizing and updating them to reflect evolving campus practices and values. To avoid re-inventing the wheel, the task force researched newer trends in articulating and assessing CWAs and Gen. Ed Requirements and considered the kinds of skills and competencies that are increasingly in demand in communities and workplaces. Most importantly, the team wanted to consider the perspective of students—more specifically, what model would resonate with them, appeal to them, and serve them? We realized that a model that would serve all of those audiences and address all of those needs would have to be multidimensional but also streamlined and direct. The model below reflects our best attempts to achieve that effect:
Members of the CWAs Task Force have presented this rough model to Instructional Leadership and all of the instructional units. The next step is to solicit further feedback from College Relations and students and to gather additional feedback from the campus. During Summer 2009, the task force will develop the final version for roll-out during the Fall 2009 Kick-off Week. Please also see the CWAs RoadShow PowerPoint for further details.
