What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is a Course Management System, a type of software that allows
instructors to easily put course information online. Each course receives
its own web site which is password-protected, and only students that
are registered in the course at Edmonds Community College have access
to the course content.
Communication Tool
Blackboard has many communication features that can enhance class discussions
and instructor-student communication. Each course has its own Discussion
Board, Virtual Classroom (chat room), and powerful E-mail function.
There is also a Digital Drop-Box, which allows student to securely
submit assignments to instructors. Instructors can also set up student
groups, and each group can have its own communication features.
Online Testing/Surveying
Blackboard also has a sophisticated and secure online testing function.
Quizzes can contain true false, multiple choice, short answer, and essay
questions. Quizzes are graded automatically by the
system, and students receive their scores immediately.
