Can you briefly tell us about yourself and types of Distance Learning courses you are familiar with?
My name is Namtip Lyons. I am in a Hospitality and Tourism program and I am part of an IPad pilot project. I have been taking several online classes or hybrid classes in each quarter for about a year and a half now so I am quite familiar with distance learning.
What are you most excited/impressed with when using the iPad and the Blackboard Mobile application?
When I first saw the IPad I really liked that it is so light, thin and very portable. It powers up and shuts down very fast. Also, I was impressed with the free apps that come with it. I have heard some negative reviews that the IPad isn’t very compatible with school work but so far I have found it is good for working on my assignments, checking my schedule, and quickly searching for information on the go..
What do you hope to get out of this pilot?
Before starting this pilot I had never used anything made by Apple before. When I was approached about it I thought it would be a great opportunity to try an Apple product and get some hands on training with newer technology. At this point, I think the IPad could be a benefit to students as long as there is reliable internet access. You can use it for your classes, assignments, and sending and receiving information. I think it may be a good idea for the college to test out the IPad with an entire class to further research its abilities. Looking for better ways of doing things and trying out new technology will always be good for students because they must keep up with the World around them. I hope this project will eventually lead to a better educational experience for the entire college.
