Parenting Inside Out

Parenting Inside Out (PIO) is an evidence-based, court approved, parenting skills training program for parents who are or have been justice involved. The PIO curriculum was designed with input from inmates and their families in order to effectively address the challenges faced by those parenting children of justice-involved families

PIO is a 10-week class for:

  • Formerly incarcerated parents
  • Partners of incarcerated parents
  • Custodial guardians of children with a parent that is incarcerated

Parents have the opportunity to practice key parenting skills that include:

  • Communication
  • Problem solving
  • Age appropriate expectations and limit setting
  • Monitoring
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Non-violent discipline techniques

Classes will meet twice weekly for ten weeks in North and South Snohomish County.

Classes will be taught by s Master's Level instructor from Edmonds Community College and a former DSHS Social Worker.
