Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees member Carl Zapora was reappointed on Oct. 1 by Gov. Jay Inslee. He will also serve as the Board Chair.

Zapora, who lives in Edmonds, has served as the Superintendent of Public Hospital District No. 2 (PHD2) Snohomish County since 2011. He has been responsible for the administration of the hospital district entity, financial and capital assets, and the development and launch of the PHD2’s health and wellness program, the Verdant Health Commission, and is set to retire at the end of 2016.

Previously, Zapora was the president and CEO of United Way of Snohomish County—a position he held for more than six years. He worked for United Way organizations for more than 30 years, including in Texas, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Zapora holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Albright College in Reading, Pa.

"I'm very pleased about Governor Inslee's reappointment of Carl Zapora to our board," said Jean Hernandez, Edmonds CC president. "Carl has been an invaluable member of the board, and I look forward to him serving as the Board Chair.”

Zapora rejoins fellow trustees: Vice-Chair Diana Clay, co-owner of Clay Enterprises LLC, a local real estate development business, who was reappointed by Gov. Inslee in December; Dr. Tia Benson Tolle, director of Advanced Materials at The Boeing Company, who also was appointed in December; Quentin Powers, Vice-President of Internal Audit, Compliance, and Ethics at Premera Blue Cross; Emily Yim, Executive Director of The Washington Alliance for Better Schools; and student trustee Lia Andrews.

The Board of Trustees ensures the accountability of Edmonds Community College. Each member must reside within the college's district boundaries. The trustees also serve the statewide system of community and technical colleges responsible for creating opportunities for students across the state on the Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges.
