Food Day Celebration
Date: October 24th, 2012 Time: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Location: Triton Student Center, Brier Hall (click for map)
Edmonds Community College participates in Food Day — a nationwide celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food.
Try free samples of Roasted Veggie Bites prepared by Culinary Arts, Salsa and Relish from Saratoga Specialties, Berry Green Smoothies by Infinitely You, Garlic Spread from WSU Growing Groceries, Coffee from Blue Stilly, Chocolate from Firebird, and Seckel Pears from Mother Nature's Organics.
At 1 p.m. in the college cafeteria, Mike Smith, of Firebird Chocolates, talks about scrumptious and sustainable chocolate.
At 1:30 p.m. in the college cafeteria, beekeeper Daniel Najera, who earned his Ph.D in Entomology (bugs!) at the University of Kansas, will talk about sustainability and the honeybee.
Honey collected from the college's new beehives will be available for sale at the event. Buy Community Honey in 3 or 9 oz sizes ($3 and $7 respectively). A small selection of candles and lotion bars made using beeswax from the college hives will also be available.
Proceeds from the sales will be used to buy supplies for the beehives. Thanks to Ryan Neff, a graphic design student, who designed the Community Honey labels.
