College hires women's basketball coaches, now recruiting!
Posted May 13 - Edmonds Community College has named Jennifer Schooler as the new head women’s basketball coach and Trisha Terhar as the lead assistant coach. Both coaches achieved academic goals while playing college basketball and aim to share that experience with players. The women’s basketball team is now recruiting for the 2008-09 season. Women interested in playing basketball are invited to open gym sessions that will be held biweekly from May to August. Scholarships are available for student-athletes.
Edmonds CC baseball team headed to the state championship
Posted May 13 - On May 12, the Edmonds Community College Tritons Baseball Team defeated the Everett Community College Trojans 12-6 to win the North Region Baseball Championship in at home game at Seaview Field. After a hard fought 5-2 victory in the first game of the series, the Triton’s bats exploded for 12 runs off of 14 hits while committing no errors in the second and final game of the afternoon. The Tritons will go on to the 2008 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges NWAACC Championships May 22-26 at David Story Field in Longview, WA.
Edmonds CC baseball alumnus to help coach AppleSox
Posted May 12 - Alumnus Bobby Carlson who began his baseball career at Edmonds Community College and played on the 2003 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) championship team is now an assistant coach for the Wenatchee AppleSox. He played with the AppleSox in the summer of 2003 after his freshman season at Gonzaga. He graduating with a degree in business finance in 2006.

Free class June 17: Search Engine Optimization

Take Dental Office Management online this fall at Edmonds Community College
Posted Apr 30 - Edmonds Community College’s Business Information Technology Department, which trains office workers with up-to-date skills, offers Dental Office Management, BSTEC 233, online. Register all summer beginning May 29 for fall quarter. Fall classes start September 22. This class is part of a new 15-credit Certificate of Completion for people with solid office skills who want to add entry-level knowledge for dental office employment. It provides the opportunity to update office technology skills for return to the workforce, job change, or career advancement for current dental-office staff.

Support horticulture students: spring plant sale May 9

Help review the new math textbooks for high school students
Posted Apr 23 - The Edmonds School District and the Transitions Math Project seek public feedback on new high school mathematics instructional materials. Review the algebra, geometry and advanced algebra textbooks selected for students in grades 9-12 at an open house 4-8 p.m., April 28 and 29 at the former Woodway High School, room 37, 23200 100th Avenue West in Edmonds. The books are Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra (The Discovering Series) from Key Curriculum Press and Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 (The Larson Series) from McDougal Littell.
Edmonds CC student holds a junior world record in rowing
Posted Apr 23 - Edmonds Community College student Allen Cox, 18, set a junior world record in November for the lightweight marathon, an indoor virtual crew race (it's hard to find 26 mile courses outdoors). A Running Start student, Cox plans to graduate from high school at Kamiak at the same time he finishes his associate degree. He also works part-time at the Mukilteo office of Windermere Real Estate which sponsors the Annual Windermere Cup Regatta in Seattle. A number of the agents are members of the Everett Rowing Club. Look for her on campus: Student earns mayor's award
Posted Apr 17 - In April six Everett high students were recognized with the Youth Achievement Award by mayor Ray Stephenson for showing qualities including academic excellence, volunteerism and perseverance in the face of adversity. Chelsi Donaldson, a senior at Sequoia High School, plans to attend Edmonds Community College this fall. Donaldson, who works at the Everett Animal Shelter, hopes to transfer to Washington State University for pre-veterinary or psychology studies. Read the article in The Herald.

Three actors in The Art of Bad Men up for acting awards
Posted Apr 14 - Three actors in the college's most recent play, The Art of Bad Men, Kevin Pugsley (Gerhardt), Glenn Chipman (Kurt), and Ian Wight (Franz) were selected for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Irene Ryan Acting Competition after outstanding performances. The acting students will compete in February 2009 at the seven-state regional theatre conference hosted by the University of Idaho. Also recognized for outstanding work were student props designer Rachel Cockrell, and lighting designer Brent Stainer.
Student wins essay contest about international education
Posted Apr 11 - Edmonds Community College student Kanchana Kularatne won first prize, $1,000, in the LewerMark “Make Your Mark” essay-writing contest. Responding to the question, "How will an international education help me make a difference in the world?” Kularatne wrote about arriving at Edmonds Community College to pursue her education the day after the Sumatra Tsunami hit Sri Lanka. The contest sponsor, The Lewer Agency, Inc., based in Missouri, provides student health insurance.
Accreditation visit • April 23-25
Posted Apr 10 - An accreditation evaluation team of 11 members of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) visits Edmonds Community College April 23-25. They will interview members of the college community (it could be you!) and review documents supporting the college's self-study report. Accreditation certifies that the college meets specific quality guidelines for institutions of higher education. As a member of the NWCCU, Edmonds CC reviews its operations for accreditation every 10 years. The college began preparing for this visit in 2006!

Earth month and beyond: let's talk about sustainability
Posted Apr 9 - Leading up to Earth Day and afterwards, Edmonds Community College holds events focused on sustainability on campus and in the classroom. Events on Tuesday, April 22 include a ceremony for the college's signing of the President's Climate Committment 12:15 p.m. in the Mukilteo Hall theater followed by a lecture on climate change solutions with Janelle Hansen, a Tualatin resident who completed a rigorous training program led by former Vice-President, Al Gore, to spread the message about the threat of and solutions to climate change. An earth fair will be held in the courtyard.

His talk kicks off the college's Earth Day and Sustainability month events. At 12:15 p.m. before the event in the Snohomish Hall lobby the alternative transportation Go Green Options contest with weekly drawings and prizes begins.
