11/16/2011Press release via City of Lynnwood
On October 17, 2011, the Lynnwood City Council unanimously approved the use of City
Hall’s Council Chambers for overnight sheltering of homeless individuals when the
temperature is anticipated to reach 33°F or below for four or more hours overnight.
The shelter will be run by volunteers of the South Snohomish County Emergency Shelter
Network, which is a cadre of volunteers from several area churches.
Starting November 15, 2011, the Lynnwood Fire Department will activate the Emergency
Shelter no later than 10 a.m. when overnight sheltering is required based upon weather
forecasts. A press release will be sent to the media and other concerned parties when
the activation has been made.
The shelter is open to men, women and families requiring overnight sheltering. Evening
and morning meals will be provided. When activated, those requiring overnight sheltering
will gather at Lynnwood’s City Hall at 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 6 p.m., Friday and
Saturday, and 5 p.m. on Sunday evenings.
