Join us in January at the Black Box Theatre!

A French film festival, the college's Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration speaker, an opera based on a Japanese folk tale, jazz night with the college's award-winning musicians, and the Karin Stevens Dance Company are among the arts and cultural events happening at Edmonds Community College in 2011. Join us in the campus theater!

Jan. 12-14 The Tournees Festival of French Film and Culture, films and times are to be announced. Five films and two music performances. Free. Call 425.640.1448.

Jan. 18 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, 12:30 p.m. Musician, social entrepreneur, and Oprah radio host Derrick N. Ashong will speak to inspire, engage, and activate students with positive messages for social change. He will also speak 7 p.m., Jan. 18 at Meadowdale High School. Free. Call 425.640.1581.

Jan. 21-22 The Sedge Hats, 7:30 p.m. Join us for a one-act chamber opera based on the Japanese folk tale Kasa Jizou directed by music instructor John Sanders. $12 for general admission. Call 425.640.1448.

Jan. 25 Jazz Night in the Black Box Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Our award-winning musicians perform. $7 suggested donation to support music student scholarships. Call 425.640.1448.

Jan. 26 Author/biographer Jennifer New, 12:30 p.m. Hear New talk about her two published books, “Dan Eldon: The Art and Life” and “Drawing From Life: The Journal as Art.” Free. Call 425.640.1744.

Jan. 27-28 Karin Stevens Dance Company, 7:30 p.m. Join us for a performance by the Karin Stevens Dance company with music by Seattle composer, Dave Chapaitis. $15 general, $12 under 25, and $7 under 12. Call 425.640.1448.
