Symphonic Choir sings for the cure June 2 and June 4
The Edmonds Community College Symphonic Choir, directed by Kirk Marcy, and the Cascade High School choirs, directed by Laurie Cappello, will perform "Sing for the Cure" 7:30 p.m., Tues., June 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.
It will be performed again June 4 at the Everett Civic Auditorium. The choral concert with full orchestra benefits the Puget Sound Affiliate of The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
"Sing for the Cure" is a symphonic song cycle of 10 songs, each sung from the perspective of someone affected by breast cancer: a woman with breast cancer, her partner, her children, her sister, her friends, and the larger community. The songs explore the full range of human emotion, from despair to hope, from grief to humor, and from loss to love.
Each song has a spoken-word introduction. The spoken-word narrations will be performed by members of the Edmonds CC family who are cancer survivors or have been directly affected by cancer.
It is dedicated to those affected by breast cancer, especially breast cancer survivors and their families and friends. It is a message of hope and healing to the individuals and families touched by breast cancer.
The selections include "Prelude for the Uncommon Woman"; "The Community's Voice"; "Who Will Speak?"; "Facing Diagnosis"; "Borrowed Time"; "The Partner's Voice"; "The Promise Lives On"; "Taking Control"; "Livin' Out Loud Blues"; "The Softness of My Mother's Hands"; "The Child's Voice"; "The Sister's Voice"; "Girl in the Mirror"; "The Mother's Voice"; "Who Will Curl My Daughter's Hair"; "Pursuing a Cure"; "Groundless Ground"; "Proclaiming Hope"; "One Voice: I Will Not Be Silent"; "Testimonial"; and "Come to Me, Mother."
The concert is free but tickets are required as seating is limited. Call 425.640.1650. Donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation are strongly encouraged, and may be made at the concert.
