2006 Legislative Session

In the 2006 Session, we asked legislators to -

    Nursing
  • Expand bachelor’s degrees

    Fund $1.66 million to implement 2005 legislation for the statewide system, creating

    • Four pilot programs for two-year colleges to offer targeted bachelor’s degrees
    • Three two-year colleges to bring four-year universities to their campus to offer bachelor’s degrees needed by local employers

  • Maintain community college buildings

    Provide $7 million M & O statewide

    • $401,000 for Monroe and Mountlake Terrace Halls at Edmonds CC
    • $180,000 for Whitehorse Hall at Everett CC
  • Materials Science
  • Support students with disabilities

    Add $1.5 million for accommodation statewide

    • 1,038 students received services at Edmonds CC in 2004-05, and
    • 683 students received services at Everett CC
  • Build capacity

    Mitigate the recent jump in capital project prices caused by fuel and materials cost increases

    • Provide a 50-50 match between the state and community colleges ($3 million statewide)
    • Approve certificate of participation projects > $8.5 million for a Student Union and Bookstore at Edmonds CC

    Provide $1.6 million statewide to fund the 7% increase in fuel and energy costs

    • $63,000 for Edmonds CC
    • $56,000 for Everett CC
  • Retain high quality faculty

    Fund salary increases in the biennium’s second year

    • $2.4 million statewide for full-time step increments
    • $6.7 million statewide for part-time increases
