payment info
Stipend for family:
For each full month (with a three day grace period) a student lives with a family, the family receives a $620 stipend meant to cover food and expenses only. This is by no means a rent payment.
-
Families may not bill students for additional expenses or request any funds from students without talking to the Housing Office.
Student payment to college:
Most students pay quarterly housing fees Families then receive their stipend the first couple of weeks after the student arrives(or on arrival from short programs and HTC if possible)
-
They do not pay for the long vacation periods (December, and mid-August to Mid September). These are the only times that student pays family directly.
Vacations (student or family):
If your student goes on vacation 7 or more days during their homestay, you need to return to them $10.30 a night (for their meals and utilities).
-
If the family goes on vacation, please email our office to let us know you will be gone and what your plan is to provide for your students meals. It would be best if a friend of the family could cook meals and check on the student. Students may also choose to stay with a friend while you are on vacation. In this case, return $10.30 a nightto them for meals and utilities.
If students want to move out:
New students must be in the program for one quarter, as noted on their application. They must talk to the Housing Office if they plan to move out. They may have to continue paying Homestay, even if they have made a contract with an apartment.
-
We ask students and families to give 20 day notice (the office will decide if students or families need to pay the 20 days)
-
If family has already received their stipend for the full month, we will send a letter asking the family to return the stipend for the time the student is not in the home.
-
There is a 3-day grace period.
Edmonds Community College Homestay Program’s Quarterly Payment System for Families (Except HTC/Trajal payments)
Monthly checks usually arrive the first week of the month. The first check with a stipend of 10-20 days (depending on the student’s arrival date) arrives by the end of the first month a student arrives.
Between quarters (December, March, June, August) the host family may only receive 10-20 days of payment, depending on when the quarter ends, and if the student has paid for the following quarter.
Remember:- We work on a 30-day month calendar with a 3-day grace period.
- If your student travels for 7 days or more over a break, return $9.65 a day to the student (for unused meals and utilities). Keep records of these returns for tax purposes.
- Payments may be late if your student has not paid or confirmed that they are continuing for a new quarter.
