Welcome to Student Financial Services

Edmonds Community College believes every person should have the opportunity to achieve their educational goals regardless of financial circumstances. Financial aid helps students offset college costs.

However, the student and his or her family are also expected to contribute to educational costs through earnings, assets, savings, and even by borrowing against future earnings. It is important to plan early for the expenses associated with a college education. Financial aid forms and assistance are available from Student Financial Services.

FINANCIAL AID OFFICE INFORMATION
WINTER QUARTER 2010

Updated: January 12, 2010

The Financial Aid Office is currently experiencing a severe backlog in file processing. Please note the following regarding our revised hours, processing of files, and petitions:

  • Office hours during winter quarter are:
           8am – 5pm           Mon, Tues, & Thurs

           10am – 5pm         Wednesday

           CLOSED              Friday

  • If you call the office, we may be unable to answer due to the high volume of calls we are receiving. Please leave a message and we will return your call within 2 business days. Please understand that the time we are taking to answer calls, and respond to voice mail and email severely impacts our ability to process files and petitions.

Regarding the processing of files

  • If your file was completed by December 17, you have been given a tuition delay of payment for winter quarter. This means you may attend your classes until your file is processed, but you should purchase your own books to avoid falling behind in class.
  • Files are processed in the order they are completed.
  • Delays of payment are not available for students completing files after December 17.
  • Spring quarter – to be eligible for a delay of payment for spring quarter 2010, you must have a completed file by March 8. Files completed before March 8th will most likely be processed by the start of the quarter. Files completed after March 8, will not be eligible for a delay of payment and may not be processed until well after the quarter begins.

If you wish to turn in documents during a time when the office is closed, you may do so at the Information Desk or the Enrollment Services Counter on the first floor of Lynnwood Hall.  You also may fax your documents to (425)640-1159.

Financial Aid Deadlines Matter

Start early. Funds are limited and awarded to eligible students based on the date financial aid paperwork is completed. The earlier you complete your financial aid file, the more funds are available, and the more likely you are to have funds in place in time to pay tuition and buy your books. Applications are processed in the order they are received beginning in early June.

May 1: Receive priority consideration for the summer, fall, winter or spring quarters for all the aid available.

August 1: Secondary Consideration. Financial aid may not be awarded before tuition is due for fall quarter if your file is not completed before August 1. You'll have to pay your own tuition and fees and be reimbursed if you are later found to be eligible for financial assistance.

Winter or Spring Quarters: If you plan to start school winter or spring quarter, you should complete your file as early as possible, preferably by May 1, but absolutely three weeks before the beginning of the quarter in which you plan to start.
