Directory and Public Information
Most educational institutions designate some personally identifiable information as directory information. This allows schools to streamline some processes which include, the publication of campus directories, the reporting of eligibility for athletes, and allows potential employers to confirm a student's attendance or degrees awarded, among other things. The school is required to inform students what has been designated as directory information and must also allow students the option to NOT have directory information disclosed. A form for this purpose can be obtained in the Enrollment Services Office.
Even though the college allows directory information to be released in some circumstances, it is against college policy to routinely give out directory information for commercial purposes, or to anyone who may simply inquire without a legitimate need to know.
ONLY designated members of the Enrollment Service's staff may disclose directory information. Other campus employees should not disclose this information unless granted an exception by the Registrar.
Edmonds Community College designates the following as directory information:
- Student name/address/telephone number
- Date and place of birth (Solomon Amendment requests only)
- Major field of study
- Co-curricular activities for athletics, music, and campus publications
- Height and weight of athletic team members
- Dates of attendance at Edmonds Community College
- Degrees and awards received
- Most recent educational institution attended
- Veteran Status
The Solomon Amendment
The Solomon Amendment is a federal law that requires the college to release directory information for the purposes of military recruiting. Federal funding of grants and contracts is tied to compliance with this law. Under the Solomon Amendment, a student's age is also released.Additional information about directory information can be found in:
