Instructor Permission to Register

Instructor permission to register is required for any class that has filled, or for classes in which the instructor must check to see if you meet the prerequisite requirements. For example: all math classes, English 100, &101 and &102 require instructor permission to register beginning the first day of the quarter.

The following options are available to register for a class that requires instructor permission:

  • If the class you want is full, do the following:
    • See if the class has a waitlist available. We expect to have a campus waitlist system in place for the 2013-14 school year. See the Waitlist link to the left for more information.
  • You must use the waitlist for any class that has one, otherwise do one or all of the following:
    • Continue to check class availability. Openings occur throughout the registration period as other students add and drop classes.
    • Bring a completed registration form to the first class meeting.
      • Ask the instructor for a signature on the registration form indicating you have permission to register. Instructors are required to give students on the waitlist priority.
      • Space may have become available, or the instructor may be willing to make an exception and allow you to register even if the class is full.
      • Instructors are not obligated or required to overload their classes.
    • Contact the instructor via email.
      • Ask the instructor for an email indicating you have permission to register. Instructors are required to give students on the waitlist priority.
        • The email must include the full class name, section and item number in your email, along with your full name and student ID number.
        • Bring a copy of the email to the Enrollment Services counter on the first floor of Lynnwood Hall, along with your completed registration form, or forward a copy of the email to Enrollment Services at registration@edcc.edu.
        • You may also bring your smartphone to the Enrollment Services counter. We will ask you to forward the email to a staff member for printing.
      • Space may have become available, or the instructor may be willing to make an exception and allow you to register even if the class is full.
      • Instructors are not obligated or required to overload their classes.
  • If you are blocked from registering because you do not appear to meet the prerequisite requirements, do the following:
    • Bring a completed registration form to the first class meeting.
      • Also, bring a copy of a previous transcript or test scores that show you meet the prerequisite requirements, OR
    • For online classes, email the instructor on or before the first day of the quarter and ask how to provide the required prerequisite information.

EdMail: You are required to use it! It is the way we communicate with you.

The college assigns all students EdMail (email) accounts within a couple of days after you register for your first class. Note: if you are a former student returning after time away from school, check with the Enrollment Services Office to confirm what email address we have on file for you. We use the address recorded in the Enrollment Services records. To gain access to your account, follow the steps at www.edcc.edu/edmail.
