Safe Zone Program

Mission: What is a “Safe Zone”?

To provide safe spaces on campus that are highly visible and easily identifiable to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons where support and understanding is the key  and where bigotry and discrimination are not tolerated.

A Safe Zone is a place to talk about your identity, a place where lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered people can feel safe and free to be open about themselves without fear of criticism or hatred.  It is a place to feel both supported and affirmed, to feel accepted and valued.

How can I participate in the Safe Zone program?

Are you interested in supporting the GBLT community on campus?

  • Do you have a desk or other personal space to display a Safe Zone sticker?
  • Are you willing to attend a ½ hour workshop?

If yes, please contact the Diversity Student Center at 425.640.1067. Each workshop includes discussion and information to help you understand the challenges that many lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered persons experience.
