DIVERSITY COUNCIL: COMMITTEE FOR INSTRUCTION AND DIVERSITY (CID)
Karen Johnson Dean, Developmental Education
Mike Fitch Paralegal Instructor
Mission/purpose: The Committee for Instruction and Diversity (CID) is committed to promoting curriculum development, faculty support and training, course content and assessment, in order to increase diversity in the classroom, to enhance students, faculty and staff engagement with issues of diversity, and to work actively to increase the hiring of members of underrepresented groups into part-time and full-time faculty positions in order to promote inclusivity and social justice.
History: Based on three working meetings with the Teaching and Learning Diversity Committee and Diversity Studies Department, a new committee, the Committee for Instruction and Diversity was proposed and accepted in spring 2007.The goal of this reorganization was three-fold:
The committee is composed of representatives from each instructional division and meets monthly during the academic year and, more often, should there be pressing business such as budget development, CD course application and review, Diversity Studies department course application and review, all-campus activities and so on.
