Counselors’ Biographies

Fran Fielden, M.ED., M.A., NCC, LMHC

received her Master’s degree in Psychological Counseling and Guidance from the University of Washington.  She has worked as a counselor in numerous colleges in Washington State as well as in the public school system and in community agencies.  She is eclectic and holistic in her approach and has an extensive background in personal, career, and academic counseling.  Fran can assist you in areas of depression, anxiety, self-esteem, stress, career decision making, and relationships.  She is a client-centered, empathetic listener who will focus on your concerns, clarify, suggest, and help you to take the next steps towards resolution.  She believes that all people can make positive changes in their lives and that a good counselor supports you and challenges you to grow. Fran’s personal interests include music, film, reading, performing, hiking, travel, and her family.

Kimberly Hanson, M.A.

earned her Master of Arts in Counseling from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Her experience includes working with a very diverse clientele on a variety of issues, including stress management, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulty, career and life transitions and assessment.   She approaches therapy in a holistic approach, realizing that we are comprised of physical, mental, spiritual and social aspects, and when these areas are out of alignment, we may feel unbalanced.  Her goal is to support you while facilitating change as you choose the pace of your growth. She is passionate about assisting clients live a fuller, more meaningful life.  Kimberly enjoys reading, writing, traveling, taking adventures and is an outdoor enthusiast. (Returning in September)

Michelle Henningsen, M.A., LMFT

is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She has experience working with adults who are making transitions in their lives, from deciding what to pursue in a career or juggling the roles of being a parent, student, partner or caregiver. She realizes that whatever we do in life, it can be filled with stress and that sometimes we need the help of a counselor to guide us in our journey. Michelle has counseling experience in the areas of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting, divorce, and balancing work and/or school and family. Michelle has work experience at a community counseling agency, a residential treatment center, and working with postpartum women, making the transition to parenthood. (Returning in September)

Cory Kohm, M.A., LMHC-A

obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Ithaca College in New York State and a Master of Arts in counseling from Western Seminary in Oregon State.  His counseling experience includes helping clients with adjustment to life transitions, substance abuse, relationship concerns, and work performance. Cory employs a client-centered , cognitive counseling approach, whereby he will work collaboratively with clients to identify how thoughts and beliefs (cognitions) impact feelings and behavior, while supporting them in their growth process.  His goal is to help you identify personal needs, understand conflicts, discover new options, and make informed choices.  Cory enjoys endurance sports such as triathlon and running, as well as golf, music, and traveling.

Jack Martin, M.A., CRC

received his Masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.  He has worked for vocational rehabilitation and workers compensation agencies, in private practice and for a large medical center.  Jack has experience helping people make personal choices and career decisions as a result of an injury, illness or lifestyle change.  He also has experience as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)).  Jack’s approach is to provide short term, solution oriented counseling that will help you develop an appropriate goal and implement a successful plan of action.

Alana Jaeck, M.A.Ed. (candidate - August 2013)

received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University at Albany in New York (2005) and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Education in Community Counseling from Seattle University (expected August 2013).  Her training has focused on individual and group counseling within a social justice and advocacy framework and included coursework in personal counseling, career guidance, college student counseling and development, and addictions.  Her counseling approach is based on the unique needs of the individual and it is her belief that counseling is a collaborative process that requires a trusting and respectful relationship between the client and the counselor.  Alana believes counseling is most beneficial when the client invests in the process, and therefore she encourages you to be an active participant in your own growth and development.  In her free time, Alana enjoys running, hiking, traveling and spending time with her dog.
