Welcome to Edmonds Community College

The Counseling and Resource Center

Counseling

Types of counseling offered through the Center include the following:

  • Personal counseling (including crisis counseling)
  • Career counseling
  • Student Success counseling (such as stress over classes)

Personal counseling

Personal counseling helps address issues that can make it difficult for students to succeed in college due to worry, stress, grief, anxiety, depression, problems with self-esteem or relationships, culture shock, and other life concerns that impact their ability to focus on their educational success. If long-term counseling or therapy is needed, referral is made to community mental health resources. Our series of When Someone You Know Brochures has information about depression, anxiety and other mental health topics.

Career counseling

Career counseling or a career planning class helps students to explore the “fit” of a major/career for their skills, needs, personality, and interests, and introduces career research resources so they develop an action plan for understanding themselves, career options, and decision making. Counseling might include career assessment tools like the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or referral to career planning classes such as

CCLS 111-Career/Life Planning
CCLS 105-Career Transitions
CCLS 106-Express Career Planning

See our brochure on Charting Your Career Course too!

Student Success counseling

Student Success counseling involves coping with problems with classes, adjusting to college culture, understanding college systems and processes, time management issues, etc. and might include referral to campus support services like the Tutorial and Writing Center, study skills classes, or to the college success orientation class:
