2007-08 College Highlights

  • Opened Mukilteo Hall, a 58,000-square-foot building, with high quality classrooms for Bridge, high school completion, English as second language, adult basic education, and GED preparation classes as well as English classes for international students. It also houses tutoring services and a new Volunteer Literacy Program established with a grant from the Verizon Foundation.
  • The first two performances held in the 200-seat Black Box Theatre in Mukilteo Hall were Anna in the Tropics and The Art of Bad Men, a work-in-progress by playwright Vincent Delaney for which Kevin Pugsley, Glenn Chipman, and Ian Wight are up for acting awards at the 2009 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Idaho.
  • Added new in-demand degrees: an Associate of Applied Science-T (transfer) in Aerospace Manufacturing and an Associate in Elementary Education.
  • Honored Distinguished Alumni: Child Protective Services investigator Catherine French, college business instructor Chad Lewis, and law clerk Melody Tucker.
  • Gained national or global certifications for our Construction Management and Project Management programs as well as our advanced manufacturing training.
  • Accounting student Lily Boen and business student Deborah Gouineau were honored as members of the All-Washington Academic Team.
  • Brought authors to the community for events: Edmonds CC reads with Mahlia Masood author of Zaatar Days, Henna Nights; Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration with Azim Khamisa in partnership with the City of Lynnwood and Edmonds School District; and the Women’s Conference with Rebecca Walker and Debrena Jackson Gandy.
  • Signed the Presidents Climate Commitment, joining 514 other colleges and universities nationwide pledging to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and become carbon neutral campuses. The college’s commitment to sustainability continues with new fall 2008 curriculum including a Sustainable Development class and a Restoration Horticulture degree.
  • Focused on math and science education: hosting a workshop for math educators; adding new math classes for future early childhood education and elementary education teachers; and holding a LiveScience event bringing high school students and the community to campus to engage in science demonstrations.
  • Created new opportunities for people to advance in career pathways to better jobs with I-BEST, Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training, short certificates that help people improve English and job skills simultaneously.
  • The baseball team won the 2008 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) championship and first year coach, and Edmonds CC alumnus, Brad Ditter, earned the Coach of the Year award.
