2003-04 College Highlights

  • Set record enrollments in fall 2003 and winter 2004.
  • Opened a Center for Families, now serving 335 families in childcare, Head Start, cooperative preschools and infant/toddler parent education classes.
  • Expanded class offerings in engineering (new materials science technology degree), theater, music, business management (new project management certificate), allied health education (new clinical lab assistant certificate), Hospitality and Tourism and construction industry training.
  • Moved the Computers, Electronics and Network program to the Beresford building with new labs for students to learn using equipment found in the workplace.
  • Established a Materials and Process Development Center, a regional center for excellence in advanced materials science and manufacturing, at the college’s Business and Training Center.
  • Made it easier for students to get started on bachelor’s degrees, online and on-campus from the University of Washington, online from Washington State University and on-campus at Central Washington University-Lynnwood (790 Edmonds Community College and CWU classes gave been held in Snoqualmie Hall since it opened fall 2002).
  • Offered free wireless Internet access to students from commonly used study areas on campus.
  • Supported economic development via Snohomish County 2010: A BluePrint for Workforce Development, Education and Economic Development and Edmonds Community College President, Dr. Jack Oharah received a leadership award from the Snohomish County Economic Development Council.
  • Added a student housing building across from campus at Somerset Village with 44 rooms, laundry facilities, a fitness room, mailboxes and a community lounge.
  • Shared expertise with the community in innovative ways, including setting up a volunteer income tax assistance site (accounting), encouraging high school girls’ interest in math and science (computer science/physics), donating repaired computers and technical support to non-profits (computer information systems) and contributing to a multicultural family fair (culinary arts/international students).
  • Completed the women’s softball and the men’s baseball 2004 season as Northern Division champions of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.
