On teaching and learning:
There will be an increasing demand for competent people in the fields of information security and computer forensics. Learning from books is one aspect, but students need to see how to actually process incidents and cases from start to finish.

Steve Haileys students sometimes get a chance to work on actual forensics cases. When Hailey is not instructing, he consults as a forensic examiner and expert technical witness for cases involving computing and network technologies. Hailey is a nationally recognized computer forensics expert with more than 22 years experience in the industry and 15 years experience as a technical trainer. He holds more than 20 technical certifications in computing and network security including a certificate in computer forensics from Oregon State University. Hailey is creator of the CyberSecurity Institute Certified Instructor (CSICI) and CyberSecurity Forensics Analyst (CSFA) certifications, as well as the author of several computer forensics course books.
Hailey has performed various networking, security, and training related jobs for two Fortune 50 companies, several law firms, the federal government, law enforcement agencies, and many colleges throughout the Northwest.

Courses include: PC Software Support, Intermediate Hardware, at Edmonds CC more than 5 years
Through his Intermediate Hardware class Higdon runs the Computer Loan Program. Students in the class rebuild, configure, and repair donated computer equipment and then loan the computers to community organizations, such as nursing homes, YMCA's, and local schools. maintain and support these systems. Before coming to the college, Hidgon ran his own computer hardware and consulting business. He retrained in computer information systems after a career at The Boeing Co.
An Edmonds CC alumnus, Higdon earned Computer Information Systems(1995) and his Support Specialist Certificate(2000). Higdon relates easily to students, sees teaching as his niche and enjoys helping students find success in computer information systems.

Julie Jackson was hired by Edmonds Community College just before graduating from the college with her two-year degree in Computer Information Systems(1991) and has worked here ever since. She earned her Cisco Certified Network Associate at Edmonds CC(1999) and holds Cisco Certified Academy Instructor certification(2000). She also earned her bachelor of arts at Western Washington University(1982). Julie enjoys helping people in the community move from lack of employment opportunities to gainful rewarding employment. She recently developed a new high-level Computer Information Systems Associate of Technical Arts degree in Information Security and a new Certificate in Linux Security.

In addition to instructing, Mustafa Rashid advises the Black Students Association (BSA) and is actively involved in diversity initiatives on campus. He enjoys teaching the steady stream of interested students at Edmonds Community College. Before coming to the college, Rashid worked as a Systems Analyst for the City of Issaquah and the City of Seattle and as a Computer Services Technician under contract for The Boeing Co. He has also owned his own hardware and software training business. He is a certified Microsoft Trainer and holds certifications as a Microsoft LAN Manager - Systems Administration and Integration & Operation and in CompTIA Network+ and A+. Rashid earned his bachelor of science in resource development at the University of Rhode Island (1973) and at one time worked on a water conservation project for the City of Seattles Parks and Recreation department.

Eva Smith enjoys helping her students develop skills while solving real-world problems. In one of her classes, students helped two non-profit groups by working on their database applications projects. Prior to coming to Edmonds CC in 2001, Smith had a 20 year career in information technology and management across a several industries. Shes active in the profession as an officer on local and international associations and a speaker at industry conferences. Smith earned her Master of Science in Information Management at the University of Washington(2005) and is a certified Data Management Professional(2004) and Systems Engineer(1992) with a certificate in Data Resource Management(1996). She earned an associate degree at Shoreline CC(1977) and her bachelor of arts degree at the University of Washington (1981).
