Danielle Orong Steps Down as Head Coach

On Tuesday, November 27, Danielle Orong announced that she is stepping down as head coach for the EdCC women’s volleyball team. Orong was with the Tritons for three years, one as an assistant coach and two as the team’s head coach. During that time she has helped start the program’s rebuilding process, which was capped off by a fourth place finish in the NWAACC North in 2012. Edmonds just missed making the NWAACC Tournament, losing a tie-breaker match in five sets at Everett CC.

“It has been great coaching for Edmonds Community College,” said Orong.”I have learned a lot from the community and I wish the future coach and the program well.”

Orong will continue to work in admissions and outreach as well as teach P.E. classes at Edmonds CC.

Her coaching career began with Golden Oak Volleyball Club and then continued at a higher level with Club Yahoo and Golden Bear Volleyball Club where she took two teams to Junior Nationals. Following this, Orong was the First Assistant Coach at San Jose City College and continued coaching club volleyball as well. She was the Assistant Women’s Coach at Division II Oklahoma Panhandle State University where her coaching and recruiting efforts helped the team double their wins from the previous season.

In 2009, Orong earned her bachelor's degree at San Jose State University where she played volleyball for two seasons.

"I wish Danielle nothing but the best," said athletic director Jorge de la Torre. "Thanks to her recruiting efforts and hard work, the EdCC volleyball program is on the upswing. I also appreciate that Danielle has always made sure that her athletes succeeded both on the court and in the classroom."

One of Orong's favorite quotes is from Vince Lombardi: ‘the price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.'
