Miranda, Volleyball Head Coach
On coaching My philosophy: teach the athletes the game so they understand all the elements and why we do things the way we do. I want the team to implement the game on a high level. It makes a real difference when you have a team with good athletes and players that truly understand the game.
Why Edmonds? This school has strong academic options for student-athletes -- which makes it easy to recruit to. They can start here for two years, play the game at a high level, and get a good education. Then they can go on to complete their four-year degree at a school where they could continue to play volleyball that is a good academic and athletic match for them or at the best school for their major, either way I’m satisfied.
Record 18 years of collegiate and high school coaching experience including as an assistant coach for Seattle Pacific University and previously at Bellevue Community College
Love of the game I been playing since I was a student at the University of Washington. As a 5’5 guy in a big guy sport, it’s a challenge, which is what I love. Volleyball is a game where you have to be good at many different skills. Now I’m a volleyball professional year round as Director of the Northwest Junior’s Volleyball Club and a coach for volleyball camps. I’m always looking for opportunities to be a leader in the game and to help develop the sport. I’ve found what I like and ways to keep doing it.
On the court When you watch me on the bench, you will see that I’m animated. I’m into the game. Coaching is rewarding.
Education Bachelor of Arts, communications/broadcast journalism, 1988 University of Washington
Insider fact I’m a first generation college graduate. My parents didn’t push me to go to college, though they emphasized good grades, so being able to earn my degree at the University of Washington was huge for me. My players’ academic success is important to me and I like that Edmonds CC is a strong academic college.
