2007 Season Outlook

With an experienced sophomore class and some great additions, including a strong recruiting class, great things are expected from the 2007 Edmonds Community College volleyball team.  The sophomores – all returning starters -- worked diligently in the off-season to ensure that the 2007 season would be a successful one.

The sophomore class features returners at key positions: Tessa Eberth (Meadowdale) who as the starting setter, averaged nearly 8 assists per game and was among the league leaders in aces per game; Silver Keck (South Whidbey) who split time between the outside hitter and the defensive specialist position (over 2 digs per game in 2006); Amanda Prather (Cedarcrest) returns as the libero that in 2006 was #4 in the NWAACC with over 6 digs per game; and Janet Schumann (Mariner) the team’s best middle blocker who was second in the team in total kills and hitting percentage.

The freshman class is deep with talent and features two 2006 graduates looking to make solid contributions as well as eight 2007 graduates – all with junior volleyball club experience.  The 2006 graduates are middle blocker Jennifer Albrecht (Bothell) and outside hitter Lindsey Bordeaux (Edmonds-Woodway), a 1st team All-Wesco South selection her senior year.

The rest of the freshmen class features talent at every position.  The outside hitters are Angela D'Amelio from Juanita HS (Northwest Jrs), Mindy Rencher, a first team all-league player from Idaho Falls HS (Idaho Falls Jrs) and Nicole Tuson from Black Hills HS (Evergreen Jrs).  The setters are Emily Price from Juanita HS (Northwest Jrs), Glenda Schuster, a member of the Daily Olympian’s all-area team from Timberline HS (Ohana VBC) and Lauren Steenson from Battle Ground HS (Clark County Jrs).  Kim Mulka, a 6’ 3” middle blocker from Skyline HS (Northwest Jrs) will split time between the middle and the right side for the Tritons.

Defense is going to be a cornerstone of the 2007 team, and the latest additions to the 2007 roster include some great defenders.  They include Bridget Marasigan, a gritty defender from Jackson HS (Northshore Jrs), the previously mentioned Glenda Schuster and highly decorated Anya Silva from Kentwood HS and KJ Volleyball Club (2006 All-State, Star Times All-area Team, and twice first team All SPSL).

Tony Miranda will begin his first year as head coach. Tony was previously the assistant coach and technical adviser for the Triton Volleyball team. He is very active in the volleyball community: Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club coach/director, and member of USAV Puget Sound Region board of directors.  Miranda is optimistic for a good season, “the team has set high goals for the season.  We are working hard every day to get better.  With the talent we have and the hard work they are putting forth we plan to make our presence felt at the NWAACC playoffs. The Northern Region of NWAACC is very competitive and we plan to be in the hunt to win a high seed in the standings.”
