Lynnwood, WA -- The Edmonds Community College women’s basketball team picked up its first NWAACC win of the year on Wednesday, January 23, when the Tritons topped visiting Olympic College 67-54. Overall, Edmonds earned its fifth win of the 2012-13 campaign – five more than all of last year.

Wednesday’s NWAACC North tilt with Olympic was a tight one until the latter minutes of the second half. Though the score was 37-29, EdCC at the break, the Rangers quickly closed the gap after intermission. The Tritons closed out the game strong, however, and claimed the 14-point victory.

"The team started the game slow and out of sync," said Coach Tarrance Tucker. "But my players regrouped focused in and decided to compete hard and came out with the victory. Tonight definitely was a team win, without a doubt"

Edmonds shot just 30 percent from the field and made only 4-16 (25%) from the arc, but out rebounded the Rangers 49-40 and forced 15 turnovers which were converted into 12 points. The biggest reason for the win might have been the 30 second chance points that the Tritons scored Wednesday.

Leading the way offensively for Edmonds was forward Jasmine McEachin who scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Forward Jessica Boyle grabbed 13 boards and had nine points. Also contributing nine points was Sarah Garinger. Tania Velasco-Bono had eight points with Jessica Stoltz and Kayla Wilson adding six points. Guard Danielle Smythe contributed five points and five steals to the win.

The win was the first League triumph for head coach Tucker. The second-year coach battled through injuries and a very small roster that he inherited last season but is in the process of rebuilding the Edmonds program.

"I've been really happy with the development of Jessica Boyle," said Tucker. "She is getting stronger everyday and she also understands her role more and more each day. Players like Tania, Danielle, Fara, Jasmine, Jessica Stoltz and Sadie are really stepping up this past week, too."

The Tritons host Everett at 5 pm on Saturday, January 26.
