Men's Basketball Notches 20th Win

Lynnwood, Wash. -- The Edmonds Community College men’s basketball team reached a milestone on Wednesday, February 13, by picking up its 20th win of the 2012-13 season. The last time that the Tritons reached the 20-win mark was in 2002-03. That squad ended up with a 21-9 record. EdCC was just 3-21 last year but have enjoyed a huge turnaround under first year head coach Kyle Gray.
Sophomore Shaq McKissic contributed 23 points and nine rebounds to help lift the Tritons to the tough 71-57 victory over visiting Bellevue College. The 6’5” forward started slowly but got going late and brought the crowd in Seaview Gym to its feet with a pair of highlight dunks. Sophomore center Tony Montano added 18 points, six boards and two blocks to the win.
McKissic and Montano were the lone EdCC players to post double-digit points against the Bulldogs. Sophomore point guard Ricardo Maxwell was in foul trouble early and managed just six points. But he did dish out five assists as did freshman forward Jesse Nicholes. Alec Wilson made four 3-pointers and tallied 14 points to pace BC. Teammate Daniel Greer had 11 points.
The Tritons made 21-of-29 free throws, compared to the Bulldogs who struggled from the stripe, going 8-18.
EdCC has just three games remaining in the regular season and only one more home game this year. On Saturday the Tritons welcome Shoreline CC for a League tilt that starts at 7 pm. Edmonds scored 121 points in a win at Shoreline on January 19.
