Edmonds Loses to Chemeketa in NWAACC Championships

The 2012-13 season came to an end with a 84-79 loss to Chemeketa in the NWAACC Championship game on Tuesday, March 5. The Tritons and Storm traded leads throughout the title tilt but it was CHCC prevailing late. EdCC finishes the year with a 26-4 record, the NWAACC North Championship and a second place finish at the Championship Tournament. Edmonds Reaches NWAACC Title Game!

EdCC edged Spokane 68-64 in one of the NWAACC Semifinal games Monday night to earn a spot in Tuesday's Championship. The Tritons will take on Chemeketa at 8 p.m. No 2-seed EdCC and Spokane traded leads all night but the Tritons prevailed, thanks in a big part by 25 clutch points from Ricardo Maxwell. Shaq McKissic added 17 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and four steals in the semifinal tilt. With the win Edmonds improved to 26-3. Chemeketa shocked No. 1-seed Big Bend 66-65, thanks to an amazing 27-3 run to end that semifinal tilt. The Storm enter the title tilt with a 20-8 record. Watch the championship game live>>

Triton Men's Hoops in NWAACC Semifinals

Your EdCC (25-3) men’s basketball team has reached the semifinals of the NWAACC Championship Tournament. The Tritons tip-off against Spokane tonight (Monday) at 8 p.m. down in Tri-Cities. You can follow the game via livestats or on free video at http://www.nwaacc.org/basketball/championship/index.php.

On Saturday, the Tritons defeated Lower Columbia 75-54, in the team’s first game of the tournament. Ricardo Maxwell scored a team-high 20 points with Shaq McKissic contributing 19 points and Tony Montano scoring 12. Edmonds followed that win up with an 81-71 quarterfinal triumph over Clackamas on Sunday. McKissic had 23 points with 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists. Maxwell and Montano added 16 and 15 points respectively. But it was four consecutive 3-pointers by Badhasa Margasa late in the second half that gave EdCC the lead and some breathing room.

Spokane enters tonight’s game with a 20-9 record. The Sasquatch reached the semifinals by posting wins against SW Oregon (82-70) and Everett (88-78). These two squads played earlier this year, a 96-91 win for Edmonds. McKissic poured in 40 points in the five-point triumph.

The “Final Four” of the NWAACC Championships are Edmonds, Spokane, Big Bend and Chemeketa. The latter two teams play tonight at 6 p.m. The winner of that contest advances to the finals to take on the winner of the Edmonds/ Spokane tilt, Tuesday at 8 p.m.

EdCC Men Claim NWAACC North Title

Combining an EdCC 93-66 win at Olympic College and Whatcom’s two-point loss to Everett on Wednesday, the Tritons clinched the NWAACC North. The title is the first for the men’s basketball program in over a decade. Congratulations to the Tritons who will be a No. 1 seed at the NWAACC Championship tournament in Tri-Cities. Triton Basketball Claims Sweep of Shoreline on Sophomore Day

Both Triton basketball teams earned a victory over visiting Shoreline Community College on Saturday. The EdCC women edged the Dolphins 68-67, with the Edmonds men topping SCC 99-80. The Triton ladies improved to 6-17 overall, 2-10 in NWAACC play. Three Edmonds players scored at least 10 points led by 13 from both Sarah Garinger and LaMonica Jackson. Tania Velasco-Bono chipped in with 12 points. Jackson and Jessica Boyle each pulled in nine rebounds in the one-point thriller. The EdCC men had four players who posted 20 or more points. Shaq McKissic scored 22 and grabbed 17 boards while teammates Ricardo Maxwell, Jordan Diel and Jacob Spade each had 20 points. Saturday was Sophomore Night. EdCC thanked its women players Andrea Berendsen, Mary Boxley, Kayla Wilson and Taylor Magera; as well as Tony Montano, Joey Reavely, Jordan Diel, Jacob Spade and Shaq McKissic for the men.

Tritons Enjoying Success in 2012-13

Edmonds Drops 121 on Shoreline CC

On Saturday, January 19, the No. 1-ranked Edmonds CC men’s basketball team scored 121 points in a NWAACC North tilt at Shoreline CC. The Tritons improved to 15-2 overall, 5-0 in the NWAACC. Full story>>

Edmonds Men's Basketball Ranked No. 1 in NWAACC

After the first two weeks of the regular season, Edmonds has jumped up to the No. 1 spot after a win over No. 2 Peninsula and a loss from then No. 1 Lane. Edmonds' big victory earned them 80 points, a sweep of the first place votes. Full Story>>

Edmonds Places Second at Umpqua Tourney

The Triton men improved to 7-2 on the season after registering a 2-1 mark at the Umpqua Crossover Tournament. EdCC opened play with a 62-49 win over Clark College and followed that with a 94-63 triumph over Blue Mountain CC to earn a spot in the tournament title tilt. The Tritons finished second, however, after suffering an 84-62 loss to Peninsula. Shaw McKissic scored a team best 21 against Clark. Tony Montano scored 17 against BMCC with Ricardo Maxwell posting 20 points versus PCC.

Basketball Teams Split on Saturday

The Edmonds women's basketball team lost its first contest of the season on Saturday, 61-56 to visiting Grays Harbor. The loss drops the Lady Tritons to 3-1 on the year. The EdCC men improved to 5-1 after defeating Blue Mountain 79-76. Shaq McKissic led the team with 28 points and 11 rebounds with Ricardo Maxwell chipping in 21 points.

Men's Hoops #2 In NWAACC Ranking

The Yakima Valley men narrowly lead Edmonds CC in the first coaches poll of the 2012-13 season. Yakima received 54 points, two more than the Tritons. EdCC is 4-1 on the season, already one more win than all of 2012-13. Read More>>

Edmonds Goes 2-1 at Cardinal / Bigfoot Tournament

The Tritons posted a 2-1 record last weekend at the Cardinal/ Bigfoot Classic Basketball Tournament held at North Idaho College and Spokane Community College. Edmonds played its games at NIC, falling on Friday to the host Cardinals 93-58. NIC, ranked No. 21 in the NJCAA, handed Edmonds its first loss of the year, but the Tritons rebounded nicely by topping a pair of NWAACC squads. EdCC beat Lower Columbia 91-62 on Saturday before wrapping up play with a tight 96-91 triumph over Spokane on Sunday. Shaq McKissic and Ricardo Maxwell were named to all-tournament. Edmonds (4-1) is back home on Saturday, December 8, to host Blue Mountain CC. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 pm.

Tritons Post a Win in Season Opener

The Edmonds CC men's basketball team topped Northwest Indian 90-79 Wednesday night in the 2012-13 season opener. The game marked the first for new Triton head coach Kyle Gray. Scoring 23 for EdCC was Shaq McKissic. Adding 20 points to the win was Ricardo Maxwell, with Tony Montano and Joey Reavley adding 18 and 15 points.

Huskies' Overstreet steps on a new stage

Before getting an offer to join the University of Washington men's basketball team as a walk-on late last month, Dion Overstreet was a bit of a hoops vagabond who stubbornly held on to his dream. He always knew he had what it took to play NCAA Division I ball, and the 5-foot-9 guard from Venice High School in Los Angeles -- by way of Edmonds Community College -- was going to do whatever it took to get there. Welcome to Kyle Gray —  our new men's basketball coach!

 

Gray was previously the Head Coach of the Men's Basketball team at Seattle Community College. He will take over the Triton program starting in the 2012-13 season. Gray earned his Master's in Physical Education from Seattle Pacific University and is a PE teacher at Viewlands Elementary School in Seattle. Read more about Gray.

 

Eligibility Rules and Requirements

  • Athletes must be registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours.
  • Athletes must have passed a minimum of 12 credit hours the last quarter you were enrolled in college.
  • Athletes may not participate in one sport more than two seasons.
  • Athletes must be registered within 20 days from the beginning of the quarter.
  • To qualify for eligibility to participate in a second (2nd) season of any sport, you must have earned a minimum of 36 credit hours and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 during any quarter of participation.
  • Athletes must be a high school graduate or the class of which you were a member has graduated.
  • Any time you participate in a regularly scheduled game, match or contest, you will be charged with one year of eligibility in that sport.
  • Athletes may be declared ineligible if during the sport season you represent any club, organization or team other than your college team.
  • If you are a transfer from another community college that is a member of the NWAACC, you become eligible for athletic competition after a time lapse of three quarters, exclusive of summer school, after separation from the former college.
  • If convicted for the use or sale of legend drugs, including anabolic steroids, you will be disqualified from participation in a NWAACC sponsored athletic event or activity for a period of one year.
