Baseball Head Coach: Scott Kelly

Scott Kelly Hired as EdCC Baseball Head Coach

December 4 – Edmonds Community College announced the hiring of Scott Kelly as baseball head coach on Tuesday. Kelly, a former NWAACC player, has a decade of coaching experience, including four years as the head coach at Missouri Valley College. He takes over a Triton program that has won seven NWAACC Championships and 19 North Region titles.

"I want to maintain the tradition of the program,” said Kelly. “Winning NWAACC championships and moving kids on to the next level will still be goals here. [Former head coach] Brad Ditter brought in a heck of a recruiting class and I'm excited to get the season started. I'm going to hit the ground running, especially with recruiting for next year."

Kelly played at Green River CC where his team placed third in the NWAACC Championships in 1996. He earned first team all-league in 1997 before transferring to Missouri Valley College. He was a NAIA All-American pitcher at MVC and was drafted in the 25th round by the San Diego Padres in 2001.

After his playing career ended, Kelly began his coaching career with the American Legion Casper Oilers and with the Casper Drillers. His squads won a Junior Legion State title in 2003 and were runner-ups in 2004.

In 2005, Kelly was named head coach at his Missouri Valley College. The Vikings qualified for the postseason twice during his four seasons at the helm (2005-08), with his teams producing 13 NAIA All-Americans and 15 Academic All-Americans. Additionally, 11 of Kelly’s players advanced to the professional ranks.

After moving back to the Northwest, Kelly worked as the pitching coach at Green River CC (2009-10), St. Martin’s University (NCAA DII) (2011) and at Kentlake High School (2012). Green River broke school records in ERA and strikeouts in 2010, with three pitchers selected in the MLB Draft. The St. Martin’s staff set new standards in wins and ERA.

“There were many qualified candidates for the position of baseball head coach,” noted EdCC Athletic Director Jorge de la Torre. “Scott stood out. He knows the NWAACC, he has years of experience as a head coach and he understands the high expectations at Edmonds. With his knowledge of baseball in the Northwest, I have confidence that Scott will field teams that will compete for titles and send players to the next level. He also recognizes the importance of academics here.”

Kelly earned his Bachelor's degree from Missouri Valley College in 2006. He is married to Celine and works as the General Manager at Heb’s Performance Baseball Academy in Auburn.
