Art Department

About our program

The art program is designed as a skills-based program that satisfies humanities distribution requirements, elective requirements, and foundation work required for a four-year art degree. The program follows similar collegiate curricular models offering students opportunities to explore visual communication, vocabulary, applications and creative thinking. Focused primarily on two-dimensional areas and art history, the curriculum encompasses introductory, intermediate and advanced course work. Courses including design, painting, pottery and drawing are sequenced to provide depth and continuity. Recently, three-dimensional courses were added to the curriculum, including sculpture and jewelry. Most classes have both a lecture and studio component and are scheduled in two- or three-hour blocks to facilitate the integration of these two modes of delivery.

The Art Department provides morning, afternoon and evening and online courses; a schedule which allows ample access to the discipline for any student trying to fulfill a Humanities distribution credit as well as art majors and those seeking elective credits. Students are encouraged to take advantage of numerous opportunities to gain knowledge and information concerning art outside the classroom through field trips, clubs, and open labs. Professional training is also provided through an annual student art show, Between the Lines (Edmonds Community College's award winning Art and Literary Publication), and portfolio development.
