New! College Success Skills

You may be required to participate in a College Success Skills class held daily for three weeks before the start of each quarter. The Summer Quarter class meets June 10-28 in the Gateway Building.

BFET students will be able to access Working Connections Childcare services for this course.

Edmonds Community College partners with the Department of Social and Human Services (DSHS) to offer vocational education opportunities to low income students receiving federally issued food stamps (Basic Food) through DSHS.

Earn your GED, take ESL classes, or get a certificate

BFET can help you get started with funding assistance for tuition and books. BFET also partners with DSHS to assist our students in obtaining childcare while they attend classes. Students are required to select a BFET-approved course of study.

BFET programs include:

GED for students over the age of 21
ESL classes
vocational certificates — see a list of approved entry-level career-training certificates in your application packet

Eligibility: Be receiving federally issued food stamps through DSHS

BFET can assist a student in obtaining their Basic Food services with a referral to DSHS. We provide referrals throughout the year. Students must not be receiving TANF at the beginning of the quarter.

Financial Aid and Other Information

Grants: Federal Pell Grant and State Need Grant

Most students will qualify for two types of grants (which do not have to be paid back): the Federal Pell Grant and the State Need Grant. Students who receive food stamps typically qualify for both grants. Low-interest subsidized student loans are also offered to offset a student’s basic needs, such as rent. Loans are part of the federal financial aid package, but they have to be paid back.

Federal Student Aid: Free Application for Federal Student Aid-FASFA

BFET requires all students enrolled in college level classes (numbered 100 and above) to complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA application is online. Find out more at Student Financial Services. GED and ESL students will complete the FASFA when they begin college courses.

BFET provides a student with a single quarter of tuition and book assistance as the student completes the financial aid process. Once the student receives the Federal Pell Grant BFET can no longer provide financial assistance.
