Welcome to Edmonds Community College

Communities: Fall 2007

From the College President

With community help, our college provides an affordable education open to all. We rely on your creativity, ability and financial support to create more opportunity for Edmonds Community College students.

We’re fortunate to have a dynamic volunteer board of community leaders working with the college Foundation. The Foundation’s “Imagine. Invest. Inspire.” initiative is helping fill in the gaps caused by years of under-funded operations. It has already raised more than $200,000 for science equipment and scholarships. This year the Foundation is focusing on equipping our new theater in Mukilteo Hall as well as our Culinary Arts kitchen.

Our students rely on the support of our business community. Recently, we received grants from Bank of America to support tutoring for students with disabilities, from Microsoft to help low-income adults learn skills for technology jobs, and from Verizon to teach literacy in the community.

Our alumni also make a difference in our community here and abroad. Take a moment to read the cover story as well as profiles on page 3. And finally, I find real inspiration in our dedicated staff and instructors who are committed to helping students succeed whether through mentoring, teaching skills needed for today’s jobs, getting students involved with service-learning projects or creating a better learning environment in our library.

Together, we’re helping students reach their educational goals.

Sincerely,

Jack Oharah, College President
